"This is the first step": the poster for the 78th Cannes Film Festival displayed on the facade of the Palais des Festivals

"This is the first step": the poster for the 78th Cannes Film Festival displayed on the facade of the Palais des Festivals

The banner for the 78th Cannes Film Festival is now in place! As they do every Sunday before the event's opening, the Palais staff unveiled the poster this morning, installed on the roof of the legendary Cannes building.

A few weeks ago, it was not one, but two posters that were presented, in homage to the cinema of Claude Lelouch and the duo Anouk Aimée - Jean-Louis Trintignant, through a cult scene from the film "A Man and a Woman" (1966). It was finally Anouk Aimée's field that was chosen to adorn the pediment of the Palace.

Impressive in size – 24 meters high and 11 meters wide – the poster, weighing nearly 300 kg, was hoisted by a team of seven people. It will remain in place for around two weeks.

A meaningful poster

"This is the first stage of the Festival, the one that marks the start of the event for the general public," says Jean-Michel Arnaud, president of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. "We put up 80 banners a year, but this one is obviously very special." A banner carrying meaning and symbolism. "The Cannes Film Festival is the festival of freedom, of freedom of expression, where all artists, all countries, all genres, all religions express themselves. This poster symbolizes beauty, the seventh art, this exceptional, irreplaceable mass art, which will welcome the entire world for a fortnight."

The official launch of the Festival, with the opening ceremony , is scheduled for Tuesday.
